Hosted by Rob Saffer.
After the local news at noon, finally some new releases from Overlooked host Rob Saffer. This live broadcast from Overlook Mountain features guitars, jazz, and jazz with guitars, made by newcomers and old-timers, domestic and European. But it will not be solely jazz — it will include a sonic experiment for double reeds, dissonantly sweet avant country, a toccata for harp, embarrassingly intimate whispered folk from Japan, layered ambiance, and some hard-to-categorize chamber music with even more guitar. Musicians featured: The Vex Collection; Shane Parish; Mac Gollehon; Ilhan Ersahin; Tim Berne and Gregg Belisle; Will Bernard; Tony Malaby; Steve Cardenas; Dave Gisler; Tomas Fujiwara; Punkt.Vrt.Plastik; Alexander Hawkins; Andrew Cyrille, William Parker, Enrico Rava; Luke Stewart; Tyler Mitchell; OGJB Quartet; JoyfulTalk; Alabaster DePlume; Brandee Younger; Magdalena Hoffmann playing Benjamin Britten; Reiko and Tori Kudo; Pan American; and Now Ensemble.
“Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
