Mostly Singles: A Better Place, Side B (Audio)
In this broadcast, the spiritual flipside of last month’s show, more of the wonderful music and artists to take us to that better place. Some are actual flips, some brand-new — and most, we hope, you haven’t yet heard: Jubalaires, Nick Lucas, early Fats pipe organ, Blind Willie Dunn’s Gin Bottle Four, Delmore Brothers, Lottie Kimbrough, Cilla Black, Brenda Holloway, Memphis Jugs, Erma Franklin, and yes, Side B of that Marlene Dietrich record. Soul, stride, Mississippi John, and whisperin’ crooning magic.
Claverack resident Michael Wilde presents "Mostly Singles," selections from an extensive collection of 45 rpm vinyl — music from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and early 80s, mixed with some 78 rpm selections from American popular song and field recordings from the Library of Congress and folklore archives. Broadcast live from the WGXC Acra Studio.
