"Water" by Cedrik Fermont is a collection of field recordings captured over more than two decades across Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America.

It is a sonic exploration, a soundscape woven from recordings of water and, in some instances, the creatures and people who depend on it.

Some recordings are raw and untouched ; others have been altered, either through digital processing or accidental decay. The result is a dialogue, a tension, between two creative but potentially destructive forces: the natural world, and us. We are a part of nature, yet we act as though we stand apart, seeking to bend it to our will.

It’s the sound of nature versus the sound of alteration. Our actions, more often than not, are harmful. We don't just drain swamps or change the color of rivers ; we have shifted Earth's tilt and rotation through relentless water extraction, massive dams, and the melting of glaciers. We've dried some lands and drowned others.

Cedrik Fermont is a Berlin-based Belgian-Congolese composer, musician, mastering engineer, author, radio host, concert organizer, independent researcher, and label manager at Syrphe, who operates in the field of noise, electronic, electroacoustic, sound art, and experimental music since 1989.

Radioart is a subset of Soundart where Radioart is produced for/with the medium of radio and is specifically suited to be broadcasted on air waves. Radioart opens new ways and approaches to radio making, where the listener takes part whether through the intensity of the listening experience or sometimes through their active participation.
