Meant to Ferment: Woodland Pantry
90.7-FM in NY's Upper Hudson Valley and wgxc.org/listen everywhere
http://www.wgxc.org/
Hosted by Rebecca Echevarria.
In this show, we are joined by Tanya Himeji Romero, an artist, forest farmer, plant steward, herbalist, and kitchen witch, whose practice is manifested through food and plants and rooted in care, connection, and play. She has a kitchen studio in Kingston called Woodland Pantry where she prepares nourishing food and creates bespoke edible medicine boxes for clients and patrons by working in close and intimate collaboration. She also facilitates workshops and guides plant walks that enrich the interrelationship between the self and the natural world.
Fermentation entered her life as a way to face fear and develop a deeper trust in the unknown. In this talk, we will discuss her guiding ethos “food as medicine food is medicine,” what intuitive fermentation entails and the alchemical potential revealed within and through fermentation. We will also speak about a method she is currently passionate about, that of crafting layers of time, feeling, and nostalgia through her ferments.
