Newton N. Minow's "Television and the Public Interest" speech, delivered May 9, 1961 to the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, DC, is aired. This is the speech where the then-FCC chief referred to television as a "vast wasteland." The show also tunes in the Talking Heads' "Television Man," the theme to the "Dr. Who" show from the BBC Orchestra, "Dream T.V." from the Sugarcubes, "TV Dream" from the Young Fresh Fellows, and "Kicking Television" from Wilco.
