Gridlock Soundlab, a radio show by DJ Sadie Woods, explores the intersection of community-driven culture and radio transmission, demonstrating how technologies and sonic frequencies are repurposed to create accessible channels of communication—broadcasting news, music, entertainment, and educational content. The title draws on "gridlock" as both an urban planning term and a metaphor for barriers within networks of movement and transmission, while "soundlab" signals a space for research and experimentation using sound as a medium for creative expression and storytelling. Together, they frame a practice that moves across space, time, and geography, foregrounding the transformative potential of everyday and vernacular media technologies—radio, mobile devices, and the internet—as tools for social practice and public engagement.

Sadie Woods is an award-winning post-disciplinary artist, independent curator, and deejay whose work explores media at the intersections of social movements, liberatory practices, cultural memory and preservation, and interactive, immersive experiences. Through a range of mediums—including visual art, sonic art, performing arts, immersive installations, and ephemeral happenings—she creates thought-provoking works that engage with the critical temporal themes, affects and struggles of the American experience, while celebrating the richness of diasporic arts and culture.

She holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Woods is a resident deejay at Lumpen Radio 105.5 FM (Chicago) and Wave Farm 90.7 FM (Acra, NY). Her practice continues to push the boundaries of art, sound, and cultural production, positioning her as a distinct voice in contemporary art and music.
