For this edition of the Nothing Is Real Radio Hour host Sam Sebren revisits two early radio theatre pieces he created for NIRRH and Wave Farm, "Like It Is Now" (2011) and "The War On Consciousness" (2013). "Like It Is Now" combines clips from 60's, 70's, and 80's science fiction movies in an effort to hear the movies in "conversation" with each other. An excerpt from "The War On Consciousness" features many experts in psychedelics research speaking about the government prohibition on legalizing psychedelics and the possible underlying causes of that prohibition. "The Nothing Is Real Radio Hour" includes sound and transmission art works by Sam Sebren, who is based in Athens, NY, and occasionally works by other artists, both pre-recorded and performed live in the studio. In a multidisciplinary practice, much of Sebren's recent work has challenged notions of accepted reality in art, advertising, and public spaces. In mediums including sound, Sebren's work blurs actual, imagined, and technological realities as he critiques socio-political rules & regulations in our consumer "culture" and urges his audience to smile and re-think our priorities.
