Join WGXC at the Catskill Community Center for a full day of workshops, art-making activities, and hands-on radio production! This family-friendly event is an opportunity to learn tools and techniques for making radio, and other general skills that can be applied to a wide range of community-based projects. Check out a full schedule of workshops below::

11am – 12:30
The Basic Tenets of Journalism. An introduction to the essential principles, priorities, and practices relating to journalism, especially in a community context. With Lynn Sloneker.
Have a Voice with Radio! A hands-on youth radio production workshop, for young and aspiring radio producers and hosts. With Radio Explosion's Courtney Murphy and Olivia Williams.
Ask Your Program Director: Programmer FAQs & Resources. An opportunity for WGXC programmers to discuss programming FAQs and resources. Hint: we have a surprise for you! With Shannekia McIntosh.
Wingnut Amateur Radio Dreams. A brainstorm session & party for your wingnut, amateur, radio dreams. With Kieran Riley.
Strange Resonance. Ages 6 to 106. Explore unusual phenomena that take place when we vibrate certain everyday objects at just the right frequency. Be prepared for tiny miraculous sounds, and loud terrible rumblings. With Bryan Welch.

12:30 – 2pm: A Potluck Feast – bring a dish if you can! Bring a question, an idea, or a bone to pick!

2pm – 3:30
An Introduction to the Open Source Movement. An introduction to the open source movement and its history; the ideologies and characteristics of open source; and an overview of open-source tools currently available, with Alex Perry.
Develop Your Story. What story do you want to tell on the radio? Come to this group brainstorm & workshop to map out the process of developing your story for broadcast; and hear some of our favorite radio pieces, ever. With Noah Reibel.
Produce an Intro/Outro for your Radio Show (real or imagined). A hands-on radio production workshop. With Cory Fischer-Hoffman.
DIY Build Your Own Antenna. Get better reception, anywhere, any station! Different techniques to improve your radio reception. If you have an old antenna or radio, bring it by! With Matt Bua.

Facilitating Group Decision-Making. Explore different tools for working with groups, leading workshops, and facilitating participatory decisions. With Cory Fischer-Hoffman and Liza Dichter.
Mix & Mash: An Introduction to Audio Editing. For beginning and intermediate producers, using the free, open-source software, Audacity. With Sara Kendall.
Get your hands on transmission arts! A hands-on exploration of creative and experimental sounds and transmissions. With Matt Bua and WRPI's DJ Hairmandoo.
RADIO 101: En Español! Una introducion a comunicación comunitaria, y las posibilidades de hacer radio con WGXC. With Andalusia Knoll and Juan Basilio Sanchez.
Catskill Studio Brainstorm. Brainstorm ideas and sketches for the future of WGXC's studio at the Catskill Community Center. With Ron Diamonstein.
Screen-Print (for) Radio: Get Your Tote Bag On! A hands-on introduction to screen-printing – print your own WGXC Tote bag. With Cara Turett.

Childcare will be provided, in addition to workshops for youth. This event marks 2 years from WGXC's Radio Barnraising Conference and the Hudson Studio-Build, which helped to launch WGXC programming. Come out and celebrate two years of participatory community media in Greene & Columbia counties! Organized by WGXC's Workshops & Trainings Committee.
