Playing our part in REFUGEE WEEK FESTIVAL ON WGXC "the world's largest arts and cultural festival celebrating the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary." This year, the festival is taking place June 15-21 and the theme is Courage. Please join us in welcoming artist Isaie “Zeek” Mathias – to our program Li Le Li Tan this Sunday, June 21,2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on WGXC.
Zeek Mathias is a multidisciplinary artist whose visionary practice harnesses the transformative power of art to inspire, enlighten, and advocate for marginalized communities worldwide, particularly within the African diaspora. Deeply rooted in his Haitian heritage and committed to amplifying underrepresented voices, Zeek challenges global perceptions, dismantles stereotypes, and fosters dialogue through immersive, thought-provoking artistic experiences. A recipient of a Congressional Certificate and multiple proclamations, including recognition from Miami-Dade County, Zeek approaches creativity without limitation. Rejecting the notion of “thinking outside the box,” he asserts that “for me, the box never existed.” This boundless philosophy informs a dynamic body of work that spans photography, film, sculpture, music, and poetry. Zeek’s exhibitions, including Echoes of Expressions: Certificate of Life, The Particles of Life:Repetition and Replication, Sound The Tanbou, Counter Valence: Images of a Beautiful Island, and The Gods Are Watching in Silence, interrogate the complexities of identity, heritage, and the human experience. His work has been showcased during Art Basel /Miami Art Week and has been incorporated into University of Kansas courses exploring Caribbean culture and the diaspora. His art has also been exhibited at institutions such as Bailey Contemporary Arts, Ansin Art Gallery, and The Ritz-Carlton. Beyond visual art, Zeek’s multidisciplinary practice extends into film and literature. His silent film I Love You in My Silence presents a nonlinear, visually poetic exploration of the complexities of love, while his poetry collection Loving You in My Silence examines themes of intimacy, longing, and emotional resilience. Anchoring much of his creative philosophy is the belief that “true love is a reality that does not know the boundary of dreams,” a concept that resonates throughout his artistic work. Zeek has held artist residencies at the Adrienne Arsht Center, Angler’s Hotel in South Beach, the InterContinental Miami, and the Hilton Miami Airport. His influence also extends into public discourse, having served as a keynote speaker for the Department of Homeland Security and Border Patrol’s Caribbean Heritage Month presentation. Committed to storytelling that transcends artistic disciplines, Zeek continues to push cultural and creative boundaries. Through multisensory experiences that provoke introspection and challenge social paradigms, his work celebrates the richness and resilience of the African diaspora. Guided by his principles - Evaluate. Identify. Create. Inspire. Access. Zeek pursues a lifelong mission to ignite social change and cultivate love through the universal language of art.
