WGXC Morning Show: Tower Power Pledge Drive

Oct 12, 2022: 9am - 10am
WGXC 90.7-FM: Radio for Open Ears

90.7-FM in NY's Upper Hudson Valley and wgxc.org/listen everywhere
http://www.wgxc.org/

Hosted by Tom Roe in Acra, with contributions from many WGXC programmers.

WGXC's fall Tower Power Pledge Drive begins Oct. 12 and ends Oct. 28. WGXC is again faced with a decision. Should we keep our an antenna on the expensive tower that beams the 90.7-FM signal past Pittsfield, and into northwestern Connecticut, across most of Rensselaer and Albany counties, and into parts of Schoharie and Delaware counties, and across Greene and Columbia counties, and northern Ulster and Dutchess counties. Or should we save money, but only broadcast to a limited geographical location. Listeners will decide this pledge drive as WGXC will see if it gets enough Sustaining Support to keep beaming out 3,300 watts of community voices into the ether. WGXC is a soapbox for all sorts of political views, and a common channel to share stories from local teenagers and senior citizens, and everyone in between. Please consider going to wgxc.org/donate and becoming a Sustaining Supporter, with a donation of as little as 17 cents a day, or $5 a month. You can also donate at 518-697-7400, or make a donation in person at three local record stores: Spike's Record Rack on Main St. in Catskill, John Doe Books and Records on Warren St. in Hudson, or Boom and Bloom on Rt. 145 in East Durham. If enough folks sign up as Sustaining Supporters, and make recurring donations at wgxc.org/donate, WGXC can keep amplifying local voices off a tall tower, for a shared community radio experience.

The "WGXC Morning Show" is a radio magazine show featuring local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, with weather updates, and more about and for the community, made mostly through volunteers in the community through WGXC. The Catskill Makers Syndicate produce the "Better Weather" for the show. Rob Gelles produces the Columbia County history segment "Rob Around The County" and "This Month in History" for the show. And Jack Sencabaugh contributes the "Backtracks in Time" segment about local history. Some reports come from our partner station, WOOC-LP in Troy, out of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Tom Roe also cuts up local and national news with songs and sounds for the show. At 9 a.m. "The WGXC Daily," with local headlines, weather, and previews of community events, airs. Also tune in for national headlines from the Public News Service on WGXC. Sometimes national, state, or local press conferences, meetings, or events are also broadcast live here.
