The Science of Nesting Birds, Part 1. In this workshop, build a birdhouse (also called a nest box) and learn about local nesting birds. All materials will be provided. After building the boxes with the help of NestWatch program staff, participants will head outside and install them in the Siuslaw Model Forest. Participants will also learn about what features make a nest box desirable to a bird, and how to select a target species for a given location and habitat. NestWatch is a citizen science project that invites nature enthusiasts to report birds’ nests to scientists at Cornell. Free for youth, 11 and older, and their parents. Space is limited. Registration by March 2.
