A hands-on workshop for kids. Offered as a related event during the GCCA’s Nature/Nurture exhibition, Ashley Hopkins-Benton is offering a free art workshop. This event is part of the Columbia County Historical Society’s (CCHS) “History Saturday” program geared toward children ages 6-10 with presentations featuring a different seasonal history topic at each month. Usually held at CCHS’s Kinderhook headquarters across the river, the GCCA is proud to host this fun and educational hands-on experience. Participants will use printmaking and collage techniques to make printed fish, while learning about two of the Hudson River’s most famous fish: the American Shad and the Shortnose Sturgeon. Many recycled household materials will be used to make the fish, and we will talk about some of the efforts that have been made to clean up the Hudson and make a better habitat for these important fish species. Presented by artist Ashley Hopkins-Benton, Museum Educator at CCHS, curator of A Sense of Place and member of GCCA’s exhibition committee. For more information, call CCHS (518-758-9265), e-mail (educator@cchsny.org), check our website (www.cchsny.org), or find us on facebook (www.facebook.com/cchsny). This program is sponsored by a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
