The fine arts department at Columbia-Greene Community College holds its 16th Annual Juried Art Show for high school students, from Jan. 24 to Feb. 24, in the Foundation Gallery in the campus Arts Center. Student work to be displayed is chosen by the art department heads of participating high schools, which include: Academy of Christian Leadership, Chatham, Coxsackie-Athens, Germantown, Greenville, Hawthorne Valley, Hudson, Ichabod Crane, New Lebanon, Pine Plains, Rhinebeck Central, Red Hook, Saugerties, Taconic Hills, and Windham-Ashland-Jewett. The students chosen to participate in the show will have the opportunity to compete for $600 in prize money, which will be awarded by an independent juror. The judge for this year's competition is Fawn Potash, visual arts director of the Greene County Council on the Arts. Prizes of $150 for first, $100 for second, $80 for third and $40 each for three honorable mentions will be awarded to the winning students. In addition, Foundation Gallery Director Yura Adams will select the winner of the $150 Director's Choice award. Prizes will be given at the opening reception, which will be held Jan. 24 (snow date: Jan. 26), from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Foundation Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends by appointment.
