Opera director and Hudson resident R.B. Schlather reunites with early music band Ruckus in April 2025 for six performances of Handel’s baroque blockbuster GIULIO CESARE. Repeating the successful alchemy of RODELINDA (2023), Schlather brings together area residents, rising young stars, and some of the finest baroque interpreters today to share his passion for Handel in the intimacy of New York State’s oldest surviving theater.

Back in Handel’s day, performers rocked contemporary fashion, played against minimal backdrops, and lit up the stage with raw charisma. In partnership with the Jacob Leisler Institute, the Hudson Area Library presents a talk with Professor Jennifer Anderson exploring the historical transformations of Hempstead Plains–the only prairie in the northeast. Celebrated as a natural wonder by early Dutch and English settlers, these vast grasslands were initially regarded as a valuable shared resource, then as a barren wasteland, and now–long vanished–as one of the United State’s most populous suburbs.

RACHEL LYON is the author of Self-Portrait with Boy, a finalist for the Center for Fiction's 2018 First Novel Prize, and Fruit of the Dead, which the NY Times called “superb” and “refreshing.”

LYNNE TILLMAN’S recent books include Men and Apparitions, MOTHERCARE, and Thrilled to Death, published this spring. Her essays and stories appear in Aperture, Bookforum, Frieze, N+1, Granta, among many others. Tillman has received a Guggenheim Fellowship and The Academy of Arts & Letters Katherine Anne Porter Prize for contributions to literature.

This event is geared towards adults looking to make a difference. Random Harvest in Craryville, NY is proud to present performances by revered local musicians P.G. Six and Wednesday Knudsen on Sunday April 27 from 2 – 5 pm in the upstairs community space. The performances celebrate “The Asking Eye,” a solo exhibition from Berkshires photographer Daniel Karp. Donations are suggested bu no one will be turned away for lack of funds. 100% of door funds will be donated to families in Gaza. DJ Jeff Economy from WGXC’s Snackpoint Charlie will play music from the Middle East, Africa and beyond. Pesto for Palestine pizzas will be for sale (vegan and GF options available), with all funds going to mutual aid. Daniel Karp’s photographs are available for purchase, and flyers for the families we are supporting, with photos, bios and QR codes linking to their verified fundraising campaigns, adorn the walls. The event and exhibition are co-sponsored by Columbia County for Palestine.

“The Asking Eye,” which runs through Sunday May 4, has already raised more than $1500 for families and mutual aid orgs. By juxtaposing Daniel’s photographs of local landscapes with stories of families afflicted by war, we encourage viewers to connect our local lives and values with the devasting impacts of American foreign policy.

The Gaza Strip is about to enter its third month of complete blockade, with no food, medicine, or supplies of any sort allowed through its crossings. Famine is widespread. Direct donations to family campaigns are one of the most effective ways to supply desperately needed funds to the population.

Pat Gubler is P.G. Six – a guitarist and songwriter who’s been making music almost all his life. He started playing out in the ‘90s, with Memphis Luxure and Tower Recordings. The first P.G. album came in 2001; there are six in total, played solo and with others. Pat’s also played with Metal Mountains, Wet Tuna, Garcia Peoples and Weeping Bong Band. Murmurs & Whispers was released by Drag City Records in 2023.

Wednesday Knudsen, known for her work in Pigeons, Weeping Bong Band, and Bulle, describes her music as “pastel modes, slightly dissonant.”
