You're invited to contribute to community science and learn new birding skills during the Great Backyard Bird Count!

Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count was the first online community science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real-time. Now, more than 160,000 people worldwide join the four-day count each February to create an annual snapshot of the distribution and abundance of birds.

Led by experienced birder Frank Smith and the Alan Devoe Bird Club, we will collect population data about the birds seen at Ooms in Chatham.

This exhibit runs from Jan. 17th – Mar. 9th.

In honor of Women’s History Month, CREATE Council On The Arts' annual showcase of women artists on two floors of gallery space. “What We Hold: Stories + Objects” reflects the diverse creativity and experience of over 70 regional women artists.

Monarda Community Care hosts a free drop-in care clinic at the Hudson Area Library, which will include ear acupuncture, ear seeds, acupressure, a wide variety of free herbal medicines, Narcan, Fentanyl test strips, zines, and more.

Left Bank Ciders is hosting a community seed swap, Sunday 2/16 from 1-4pm. You can bring any extra, leftover garden seeds you don’t think you’ll get to this year. We’ll have envelopes and pens to help keep them straight. If you don’t have any seeds, come anyhow! You can bring a favorite story about seeds, seed varieties and crop diversity, we’ll have a story swap as well!

The Hudson Area Library hosts a book reading and signing of "Their Names Are Mine" by poet and performer Rajnii Eddins. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Rajnii has been engaging diverse community audiences for over 30 years as a Spoken Word Poet/Emcee and Teaching Artist. No registration required.

Community Conversations is an opportunity to join local experts and community members virtually. This program series addresses important issues, from affordable farmland to Indigenous land stewardship and their connection to conservation. One-hour Zoom sessions will include brief presentations, time for questions and answers, and the opportunity to connect with others.

This month, we will explore how libraries and conservation efforts support each other!

Mandy Babirad, Assistant Director and Children’s Librarian at the Kinderhook Memorial Library, will be joined by Jenifer Rosete, Conservation Education Coordinator at CLC, to discuss collaborative efforts to get people of all ages outdoors. Babirad will highlight upcoming and past nature-themed activities at the library, like this past summer reading program that encouraged young visitors to visit all ten CLC properties. Rosete will then share ways to explore nature with your local library using CLC resources like Nature Explorer Backpacks and Nature Quest!

These casual monthly in-person meet-ups at the Hudson Area Library will provide you with an opportunity to practice speaking conversational Spanish, facilitated by our instructor Sonia Cintron. All skill levels are welcome!

Starting Thursday, February 13th, we will be holding our six-week Dragon's Way Qigong class for Spring in Chatham, NY.

Over our six classes, you will learn and practice 10 ancient movements with a certified instructor in the lineage of Grand Master Nan Lu. Qi is your life-force, your energy, and these 10 movements will help improve Qi flow, balance, flexibility, and overall wellness. What makes our classes different from most is that you also will learn about the Five Element Framework, how you can add to your Qi, and how you can stop draining your Qi on your journey to self-healing. This work can help address chronic pain and joint stiffness, poor digestion, weight loss, headaches, stress and anxiety, sleep disorders, arthritis, and overall fatigue.

This Spring, you can choose to attend the classes on Thursday mornings at The Morris Memorial @ 9:15 am to 10:30 am. or on Thursday evenings at St. James Church Hall @ 6:15 pm to 7: 30 pm, both in Chatham.
