Turn out for Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM’s karaoke contest fundraiser at Half Moon in Hudson on Friday, May 10th. The evening will be hosted by Karaoke Amanda of WGXC show "Dim the Lights with Jenny and Amanda" with proceeds from ticket sales benefitting WGXC.

The contest’s theme is communication, so all songs related to dialing, radio, phone, internet, fax, and more are eligible. Choose your tune and sing it for our guest judges Arielle and Gloria of WGXC show "Las Brujas Bilingues" and DJ Paddy Boom of WGXC show "Vinyl Freedom" to win prizes.

Prizes include tickets to the Negativland + SUE-C, Matmos with Rodney Alan Greenblat opening show at the Greenville Drive-In and other goodies.

Doors are at 7pm and karaoke contest begins at 8pm. If you can’t turn out in person, tune in for a live broadcast of the event on the FM dial or online.

Every Monday at 7:30 p.m. No previous singing experience is required. For most of us, our voice is our most important medium of expression. With this voice we can sing, we can praise, we can express joy or pain, and we can teach. But often, our relationship with our voice becomes disconnected. We underestimate the effect our voice has on our bodies and our lives. This workshop is a doorway into reconnecting with your voice and expressing yourself more fully. Through a series of simple tones, or notes sung for long periods, we gently begin to observe the relationships between the voice, the body, the breath, and the self. This workshop is not affiliated with any spiritual practice. All people are welcome, and no singing experience is required. There is a short introduction and instruction, followed by 30 minutes of a guided toning series, and open discussion afterward (optional). Open to the public, but donations are graciously accepted. Screening, with discussion following, of a video about a physically isolated sliver of Queens, a neighborhood with the remarkable former name of Blissville! The neighborhood has about 80 houses; the world's largest Fortune Cookie Factory; a factory with the exclusive rights to reproduce the Statue of Liberty; a giant car crusher; and the largest cemetery in the United States. Blissville reflects the ethnic diversity of Queens which is considered to be the most ethnically diverse county in the entire U.S. Nearby to Blissville in the 1920"s was a village of Romani--what used to be called "Gypsies," the largest in the U.S. It was known as the "Gypsy Ellis Island." The video recounts a trip to current day Romania and a visit to a "Gypsy " encampment. The producer Hank Linhart is a Greene County resident. Linhart says the video is not so much a documentary as a "docu / poem."
