The ArtEast May Studios Tour, formally known as ArtmostNY Open Studio Tour, is a group of working artists who will be opening their studio doors for two very busy days in May during which you can visit while they work. This event offers a rare opportunity to step inside the working studios of some of New York's talented and innovative artists whose studios are right here in eastern Dutchess County. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions, and learn about their techniques and inspirations. Each artist will be working on a project that shows what it’s like to work in that medium.

Opening Reception for "Outside the Box" on May 4, 2024 from 1-4pm with guest artists Ian Maracle, Margaret Jacobs, and Paulette Moore.

"Outside the Box" features the innovative expressions of 10 Iroquois/Haudenosaunee artists who are pioneering new ground and new spaces. Work by installation artist Hannah Claus, photojournalist Ian Maracle, video game creator Waylon Wilson, neo-burlesque dancer Lauren Jiles, metalsmith Margaret Jacobs, animator Paulette Moore, luthier Glenn Hill, Jr., contemporary dancer Santee Smith, and the Iroquois Marching Band.

Seaside Pumpkins are a New York City-based electro folk pop duo consisting of Jannek Zechner & Natalie Mack. This melodious pair draws you into their world with songs that tell stories straight from the heart, ringing poetic and true.

Natalie makes theater & music with and for kids, at venues ranging from Lincoln Center, to the rainforests of Tasmania. Jannek is an Emmy-Award winning composer, producer & mixing engineer, working alongside legends like Tony Visconti & Elvis Costello. Together, they are Seaside Pumpkins, and all are welcome in their warm realm of song.

Weekly live improvised ambient music featuring David and Kenji Garland, Dan Kirkhus, Jimmy Garver, Rodney Greenblat and guest performers. Enjoy coffee and breakfast while floating on a cushion of ambient sound by adventurous musicians.

Every Monday at 7:30 p.m. No previous singing experience is required. For most of us, our voice is our most important medium of expression. With this voice we can sing, we can praise, we can express joy or pain, and we can teach. But often, our relationship with our voice becomes disconnected. We underestimate the effect our voice has on our bodies and our lives. This workshop is a doorway into reconnecting with your voice and expressing yourself more fully. Through a series of simple tones, or notes sung for long periods, we gently begin to observe the relationships between the voice, the body, the breath, and the self. This workshop is not affiliated with any spiritual practice. All people are welcome, and no singing experience is required. There is a short introduction and instruction, followed by 30 minutes of a guided toning series, and open discussion afterward (optional). Open to the public, but donations are graciously accepted. At Columbia Land Conservancy, we know we’re s’more together! Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or hoping to volunteer for the first time, CLC is excited to connect at this fun orientation event. Around the campfire with a s’more, participants can learn more about volunteer roles, upcoming activities, and sign up for events.

In this local history talk and author event at Hudson Area Library, Susan Stessin-Cohn, former professor of social studies education at SUNY New Paltz, Director of Education at Historic Huguenot Street, and current New Paltz Historian, will speak on her 20+ years of research into the history of slavery in the Hudson River Valley, with a particular focus on the plight of the “runaways”—enslaved persons who sought freedom by escaping from their enslavers. Stessin-Cohn and her research partner, Ashley Hurlburt-Biagini, have brought to light 830 notices of enslavers of the Hudson Valley who placed notices of rewards for the recapture of their enslaved “runaways.” The second edition of the book includes 250 more notices. This in-person event will include a Q & A and book signing. Books can be purchased at the event courtesy of Spotty Dog Books & Ale.

Hot on the heels of its production of Tennessee William’s “The Glass Menagerie,” Catskill’s Bridge Street Theatre tackles yet another classic of dramatic literature, Anton Chekhov’s haunting “Uncle Vanya.” Irish playwright Conor McPherson provides a comedic new adaptation of this most intimate and heartbreaking of Chekhov’s dramatic works, to be presented in BST’s 84-seat “Priscilla” Mainstage, located at 44 West Bridge Street, for a two-weekend run May 9 – 19. Bridge Street Theatre Artistic and Managing Director John Sowle directs an ensemble cast. Information and tickets, at the theatre’s website.

Turn out for Wave Farm's WGXC 90.7-FM’s karaoke contest fundraiser at Half Moon in Hudson on Friday, May 10th. The evening will be hosted by Karaoke Amanda of WGXC show "Dim the Lights with Jenny and Amanda" with proceeds from ticket sales benefitting WGXC.

The contest’s theme is communication, so all songs related to dialing, radio, phone, internet, fax, and more are eligible. Choose your tune and sing it for our guest judges Arielle and Gloria of WGXC show "Las Brujas Bilingues" and DJ Paddy Boom of WGXC show "Vinyl Freedom" to win prizes.

Prizes include tickets to the Negativland + SUE-C, Matmos with Rodney Alan Greenblat opening show at the Greenville Drive-In and other goodies.

Doors are at 7pm and karaoke contest begins at 8pm. If you can’t turn out in person, tune in for a live broadcast of the event on the FM dial or online.
