The consequences of Israel’s closure policy, which since October 2023 has barred Palestinian workers from entering Israel [Palestine 48] have been disastrous. Approximately 180,000 workers from the West Bank and 20,000 from Gaza found themselves overnight without a livelihood. Since October 23, only 8,000 work permits have been issued in total, none for Gazans, and for key positions only. The vast majority of Palestinians worked in building and are now jobless.

When this piece was recorded in July 2022, 6,000-7,000 Palestinian civilians used to cross the Qalqilya DCO a.k.a Eyal military checkpoint daily, to work in Israel. It is situated in the northwest part of the West Bank.
