This pledge drive broadcast will feature new recordings in the hope of attracting new sustaining supporters to Wave Farm's WGXC. The program will shift between genres and sonic extremes: noisy guitars and exacting chorales, disjointed funk and funky avant-garde, improvisation and composition, urgency and timelessness, and of course, loud and soft — it’s all there if one listens to WGXC 90.7-FM Radio for Open Ears. Featuring music by Sons of Kemet; Odd Circus; Sunny Jain; Dry Cleaning; Helvetia; Arepo; Konstantia Gourzi; Matt Haimovitz; Maya Beiser; Jacob Muhlrad; Lowell Liebermann; Booker Stardrum; Kid Millions and Jan St. Werner; Opto S; Blurry the Explorer; Bisbaye; black midi; Anthony Pirog; Roomful of Teeth; Judith Berkson; Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, and perhaps more.
After the local news at noon, “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
