We present music from Somalia drawing on two vast archives of tapes stored in both Mogadishu, Somalia and Hargeisa, Republic of Somaliland. The recordings document a period before Somalia fell into 20 years of conflict and tragedy, a time from which it will hopefully re-emerge as rich and vibrant as the music itself. Music from around the world is featured. Bringing the audience into the realm of other cultures through music, hopefully expanding empathy for the “other,” and recognizing that “other” in ourselves.
