When it comes to sweet, soothing, swinging, and sublime, there are few sounds that can rival the guitar riff in a Congolese rumba-soukous. In 2021, the genre was added to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity living traditions. This broadcast features two hours of rumba Congolaise, soukous, ndombolo, mutuash, pachanga, and other contemporary styles spanning more than a half-century, from both sides of the Congo River.
