Hosted by Rob Saffer.
In this lighter-than-normal, summery installment of “Overlooked,” host Rob Saffer will focus on two bands: OOIOO from Japan and The Hampton Grease Band, whose album, Music to Eat, was the second-worst-selling album in Columbia Records’ history (the first being a yoga record!) Bruce Hampton, its founder, died on-stage this past May during a rousing 70th birthday tribute concert—we’re playing Music to Eat in his honor. We’ll also explore the fascinating career of OOIOO, an all-female Japanese band founded by The Boredoms drummer Yoshimi. The music reaches to the past with references to Asian folk music and floats like a feather toward the future with synthesizers and noise. We’ll listen to a bunch of tracks from five albums recorded from 1999 - 2013.
