Hosted by Jarrett Martineau (Cree/Dene)
On this episode, it's a dedication to the young warriors: Indigenous artists putting in mountains of work and shaking up what it looks, feels and means to be Indigenous. It's all about exploring new evolutions of Indigenous identity and the music that defines it. Best bet it's gonna get real Native on this show with a major salute to the new generation of cultural keepers uplifting, proliferating and preserving Indigenous customs. Shouting out the new wave of influential creators sharing their experiences and inspiring a generation of Native youth (and elders) to rise with them... Reclaimed, the Indigenous Next Wave!
"RECLAIMED" is a weekly series on CBC Music that explores the many worlds of contemporary Indigenous music. From traditional songs and acoustic sounds to Native hip-hop, R&B, and the dancefloor-filling beats of electric powwow, "RECLAIMED" is a one hour soundtrack to the Indigenous Next Wave: a new generation of Indigenous artists reclaiming their culture through music and song.
Equal parts celebration, resistance, and reclamation, "RECLAIMED" introduces listeners to a new generation of Indigenous artists, while paying respect to First Nations musicians of previous generations that have set the stage for today’s emerging talent to rise. The series is a platform for musical discovery and education, incorporating everything from powwow songs and protest music, to electronic beats and incendiary political hip-hop. Over 100 compelling episodes, "RECLAIMED" interweaves Indigenous music with live performances, artist interviews and profiles, and songs in Indigenous languages. From Buffy Sainte-Marie and Robbie Robertson to Tanya Tagaq, A Tribe Called Red, and beyond, Cree/Dene host Jarrett Martineau is your guide to the Indigenous Next Wave.
"RECLAIMED" is produced for CBC Music and airs on WGXC through Native Voice One. Native Voice One (NV1) is the distribution division of Anchorage-based Koahnic Broadcast Corporation.
