Today we are presenting the 9th episode of Paises, Countries where we celebrate 2 countries in 2 separate segments of 30 minutes each. Today we are celebrating Costa Rica and El Salvador.

Calypso music is one of the most famous musical styles to come out of Costa Rica, along with Soca, Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia. Wind instruments called ocarinas are used in ancient ceremonial songs that are still played today

Salvadoran cumbia have a combination of African and Indigenous rhythms that originated in Colombia, in addition Xuc: A musical genre and dance that originated in 1942 in Cojutepeque, Cuscatlán and, Chanchona a joyous regional music from eastern El Salvador that's made for and by country people. The name "chanchona" means "big pig," which is the local name for the string bass and, Native Mesoamerican Indigenous music a music style that has had a significant impact on modern El Salvador music.
