Tune in for a live performance and discussion from Wave Hill's Armor Hall by soprano Katherine Whyte and pianist Djordje Nesic as part of the exhibition Angel Nevarez & Valerie Tevere: As far as the ear can hear followed by a discussion with the artists. 

The event will open with an operatic performance celebrating renowned Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini, a former Wave Hill resident who is featured in Nevarez and Tevere’s installation On Toscanini on exhibit in As far as the ear can hear in Glyndor Gallery. Whyte and Nesic’s recital for soprano with piano accompaniment features arias from operas that Toscanini is known to have conducted, including those by Verdi, Puccini, and other renowned composers.

This performance is followed by a conversation with Nevarez and Tevere to discuss their deep research into Toscanini’s life and work along with the opportunity for audience members to ask questions about their process and practice.

As far as the ear can hear presents a selection of works by Angel Nevarez and Valerie Tevere that activate sound across landscapes of the Bronx, New Orleans, and the Sonoran Desert. Working in video, installation, photography, music, and performance, the artists explore the social dimensions of sound and the act of listening, linking distinct geographies and histories through resonance, gestures, and call-and-response. Frequently collaborating with musicians, performers, and archival materials, Nevarez and Tevere use sound to trace the movement of memory across landscapes shaped by migration, environmental precarity, cultural transmission, and political struggle. As far as the ear can hear is on view from August 29 – November 29, 2026 in Wave Hill's Glyndor Gallery.
