Nuestra Música: Tales of Two Songs

Nuestra Música: Tales of Two Songs. M.V. (Nov 19, 2024)

Hosted by Mariano Vera.

Today we are presenting a “Tale of Two Songs” two tunes with the same title with two different styles and sometime quasi two different rhythms. This musical counterpoint shows singers from different cultures, countries and languages.

As a perfect sample we start with a clasic like La Bamba sung by Los Lobos in their original style and the group Las Cafeteras singing La Bamba Rebelde (The Rebellious La Bamba) with a much different approach not only in rhythm but also in the meaning of the song.

Enjoy the show and thank you for listening to your community supported radio station.

“Nuestra Música,” “Our Music,” presents the rhythms and folklore of Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and Cape Verde. From Tango to Flamenco and all Latinx music in between. The show explores the native instruments, languages, and traditions played in 22 countries and one territory. Other than Spanish and Portuguese, "Nuestra Música" presents songs in Quechua, Mapuche, Guaraní, Nahuatl, Gallego, Spanish Basque, and Catalán.
