Today we bring you two hours of almusiqaa alssudania (music of Sudan) – a brief survey of the diverse and rich sounds that have evolved since the Kingdom of Kush. A geographical region as well as a place, Sudan was the largest country in Africa and the Arab world until it was divided in 2011 by a brutal civil war. The resulting humanitarian crisis continues to this day. We need to open our ears and arms, not turn our backs. Music for the Masses invites you on an excursion of sound and rhythm where you will encounter the music of established and emerging artists, both signed and unsigned, on the international music scene. For the avid globe-hopper and armchair traveler alike. You might want to pack a map and a sandwich. Broadcast live from the Carnegie Room of the Catskill Library. Hosted by Neva E. Wartell.
