Hosted by Dennis Darrah.
Gnawa music is a ritual, religious, trance healing music of Morocco and other countries of North Africa. When Muslim Arabs brought slaves from West Africa to the North their music came with them and eventually merged with the prevalent Islamic Culture. But that music now has also expanded from the original religious use into more secular forms. We explore that evolution today, drawing on these artists: Hassan Hakmoun (with Don Cherry & Adam Rudolph), Electric Jalaba, Bab L"Bluz and Moktar Gania w/ Gnawa Soul.
