The Cadillacs began their journey in 1953 as The Carnations and when they changed their name they helped usher in a new era of automobile names for R&B vocal groups. Lead tenor Earl "Speedo" Carroll and bass singer Bobby Phillips forged a friendship that would carry on from their childhood growing up in Harlem until the end of their days.
