Calling all souls to celebrate the Day of the Dead – Haitian style! Every year, the beginning of November brings the sacred and spectacular Vodoun celebration that is Fèt Gede – a raucous, bawdy, fiery festival that embodies many of the essential aspects of Haiti's history and culture. Much like the Mexican Día de los Muertos, Fèt Gede is a way to pay respect to loved ones who have passed on, through the lwa (spirits) of death and fertility – such as Bawon Samedi (Papa Gede), his consort Grann Brijit, and many others – who guard the cemeteries and navigate the world between the living and the dead. Featuring two hours of mizik rasin (roots music) driven by the Vodoun rhythms and chants that honor the Gede. (Part 4 of an annual series.)

"Music for the Masses" invites you on an excursion of sound and rhythm. Discover the music of established and emerging artists, both signed and unsigned, on the international music scene. For the avid globe-hopper and armchair traveler alike. You might want to pack a map and a sandwich. Catskill resident "DJ Neva" is an ethnomusicologist, producer, and long-time cultural activist, specializing in music from the entire African continent, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, the Maghreb and Middle East, and the Roma (Gypsy) diaspora. Formerly the producer of "Continental Drift" on WBAI-FM and New York International on Haitian community station Radio Soleil in NYC. The show is broadcast live from Catskill, NY.
