90.7-FM in NY's Upper Hudson Valley and wgxc.org/listen everywhere

Hosted by Rob Saffer.
After the local news at noon,
preachers and poets, mystics and misfits, saints and sinners, demons, demigods, gods, cultists, believers, and heretics are just a few of the themes and characters that comprise this broadcast. Music archivist and super fan Bill Dubilier joins “Overlooked” host Rob Saffer for this live broadcast from Overlook Mountain highlighting ‘spiritual’ rock from the late 60s and 70s. During this time, bands in the U.S. and abroad were drawn to different spiritual traditions, from Chrisitianity and Hinduism to Buddhism and outsider cults. Featuring more than 25 tracks, listeners will hear chants and yowls, psychedelic seance trance music, sitars, and tamburas, garage rock and blues, music that’s in and out, holy and unholy. Including work by Man; Lazarus; Glass Harp; The World Peace Band; Fire, Water, Air; Skip Bifferty; William Penn and His Pals; Bill Nelson; Blodwyn Pig; Shadows of Time; Wimple Winch; J.D. Blackfoot; The Fugs; Ramases; Wizard; Flower Traveling Band; Golden Dawn; It’s All Meat; D.R. Hooker; Morning Dew; Love; St. John Green; Bee Gees; Public Nuisance; Jericho Jones; B.B. Blunder; and, Rotary Connection.
“Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation. While living in Brooklyn for 25 years, he served on advisory boards for Celebrate Brooklyn and Symphony Space. He also curated the Brooklyn Museum’s summer jazz series and helped found The Mingus Big Band.
