Hudson Valley-based band Mambo Kikongo will perform live in the WGXC Hudson studio during "Local Music Week" on 90.7-FM. From their myspace bio: "MaMbo KiKongo is the vision of latin percussionist Carlos Valdez. Carlos has an extensive resume of accomplishments including composing the music for: The Broadway production of "Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk" George Wolfe's production of "The Tempest". He has also worked with Ann Pollack and Magica on their recent CD, "Worlds Collide", Spirit Ensemble. Some other collaborations include: Garth Fagan(choreographer of the Lion King), Rosie Perez, Mambo Macoco, Jellybean Benitez and many more. Mambo KiKongo has traveled in many musical directions over the years, although always sticking to its roots with the presence of many different latin rhythms including: afro-cuban, salsa, mambo, latin jazz and some brazilian beats etc. The current KiKongo band that you will be hearing and seeing now is heading yet in another direction but still dipping in the roots. The line up that now includes some of the finest performers in the Hudson Valley takes these roots and fuses them with a more modern Funky/RnB sound and a hint of jazz thanks mostly to John Esposito. The main focus however is on the groove. "we want everybody to be able to dance to our music not just those who have it in their blood or took dance class, this is for all of you" With the help of: Peter Buettner (a KiKongo Veteran) on sax and flute, Michael Colletti on bass (and hype), John Esposito on piano and keyboards, Reggie Earls on vocals and Manuel Quintana on drums, Carlos Valdez will be bringing the Latin/Funk flavored grooves to the dance floors in and around the Hudson Valley. Hopefully will see you shaking your booty."
