It's a new year and a new season! This weekend, millions of people around the world are celebrating Nowruz – the Persian New Year, which is observed on the first day of Spring in portions of Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. Symbolizing renewal, rebirth, and the triumph of light over darkness, it's a time to celebrate with family and friends. In this annual series we feature a selection of pop, folk and classical music from Iran, spanning the 1960s to the present. May the New Year bring peace and enlightenment to all of us who share this planet. (Part 3 of a series.)

Catskill resident "DJ Neva" is an ethnomusicologist, producer, and long-time cultural activist, specializing in music from the entire African continent, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, the Maghreb and Middle East, and the Roma (Gypsy) diaspora. Formerly the producer of "Continental Drift" on WBAI-FM and New York International on Haitian community station Radio Soleil in NYC. The show is broadcast live from Catskill, NY.
