On today's Friday Afternoon Show, Lucy Bohnsack is joined by Arone Dyer to talk about an upcoming performance at PS21's Winter Festival The Dark, happening throughout Columbia Country from February 16–22, 2026.

Arone Dyer will perform Dronechoir at The Masonic in Chatham, NY on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 3:00 pm. Arone Dyer’s Dronechoir is a boundary-blurring, ever-evolving, highly interactive musical experience that aims to provide new or deeper connections between participants and audience members alike since 2015.

A curated group of vocalists from diverse backgrounds perform an unrehearsed a capella piece in which musical cues and venue-specific movement directions are fed to them through earphones, physically foregrounding specific singers or creating positional unity at different points in the piece. As a result, the singers may move closer to each other and members of the audience than is typical or expected, bringing depth to the experience by challenging comfort barriers and introducing a heightened sense of engagement with the performance.

The Dark is a new annual festival from PS21 : Center for Contemporary Performance that celebrates and elevates the depths of winter. Taking place February 16–22, 2026, the festival will unfold at PS21 and across Columbia County—in theatres, restaurants, libraries, saunas, and outdoor public spaces. Featuring more than 60 international artists and over 80 performances, The Dark offers a packed week of world-class contemporary performance, installation, music, dance, and theatre—all exploring winter as a time of community and solitude, fire and ice, darkness and light. A major new attraction for the region, the festival positions Columbia County as a year-round cultural destination—not just a summer one. It is a light in the dark—and The Dark is the light.
