Shakti was an acoustic fusion band formed by John McLaughlin in 1974 with musicians from both the Hindustani tradition (Zakir Hussain) and the Carnatic tradition (L. Shankar, Ramnad Raghavan and T.H. "Vikku" Vinayakram). We sample their recordings today. Music from around the world is featured. Bringing the audience into the realm of other cultures through music, hopefully expanding empathy for the “other,” and recognizing that “other” in ourselves.
