SAP is a pre-recorded radio show collaging African-diasporic musics around the world, field recordings, short-form interviews, and oral histories of black music by time and place. This project seeks to contribute to the de-genre-fication of global music that developed after the transatlantic slave trade by blending styles across rhythms, tempo, melody, and place. This includes Blues, Jazz, Afrobeat, House, Techno, Dub, Jungle, Juke, Folk, Spirituals, Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Funk, Samba, and more. SAP is an acronym for Something At Play; Socialize, Act, Process; Spirit As Power; Sounds Affirming Presence; Soul, Art, Passion; And sap is the lifeblood within trees that supports new growth.
Corey Sherrard Jr is an interdisciplinary artist, radio host, musician, and designer born and based in Houston. He is a School for Poetic Computation and University of Houston alum.
