Columbia and Greene Counties – Spring Gardening Day will take place on two Saturdays in March! March 22 at the Extension Education Center in Hudson and March 29 at the Agroforestry Resource Center in Acra. Each day will feature four educational workshops led by knowledgeable Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs). They will cover a variety of gardening topics designed to inspire and inform. Participants will also enjoy a light breakfast and the opportunity to shop at the Master Gardeners Marketplace. The marketplace will offer gently used books, gardening tools, and plant cuttings.

“Spring Gardening Day is all about fostering a love of gardening and building a stronger connection to the natural world,” said Xandra Powers, Community Horticulture Coordinator. “Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this event offers something for everyone, from expert-led workshops to unique finds at the marketplace.”

This year’s workshops include an engaging mixture of topics:

From Seed to Vase– Learn the art of planning and growing of flowers to create bouquets.
Invasives– Learn to identify and manage invasive pests to protect your garden.
Bees and Beyond – A Master Beekeeper and MGV will share fascinating insights into the world of bees and their vital role in our gardens.
Gardening for Nocturnal Pollinators – Learn to design a garden that supports and attracts night-flying pollinators like moths and bats.
Gardening Tips– A treasure trove of tried-and-true gardening tips and tricks from experienced Master Gardeners.
Landscaping with Native Plants for Pollinators – Explore the benefits of native plants and create pollinator-friendly landscapes.
Tool Care 101 – Learn how to maintain and care for your gardening tools.
Designing and Planting a Wildflower Meadow– Get practical tips on creating a thriving wildflower meadow.

Additionally, on March 29 only, attendees can participate in a hands-on workshop: Build Your Own Worm Bin!

In addition to workshops and shopping, attendees can look forward to door prizes and the chance to meet other gardening enthusiasts in the community.
