7pm-9pm: Breaking the Algorithm IRL at the Avalon Lounge, DJ set by Neva Wartell (host of Music for the Masses) and taping of Local Waves in Conversation with guest Galen Joseph-Hunter

Local Waves at The Local is a new free series at The Local curated by Mike Amari/Chosen Family in partnership with Wave Farm's WGXC featuring Hudson Valley artists performing original music.

Nora Knight is a songwriter/multi-instrumentalist based in the Hudson Valley who writes songs with emotionally direct lyrics in non standard tunings, fitting somewhere in between indie folk and alt country. Historically a collaborator and drummer in numerous other projects (Constant Smiles, Maryse Smith), Nora has finally begun to settle into releasing music under her own name with a self-released EP available to stream and a full-length album soon to come.

When all the music ever created is a swipe away on your phone, it's easy to miss the incredible original artists who are making and releasing music right here in the Hudson Valley. This series will serve as an expansion of the Local Waves radio show I co-created with WGXC (which plays all new, local music every Friday 8pm) to further highlight these acts with a free, monthly concert in a fantastic venue at The Local. I hope that folks will use this series as a way of discovering new artists, and getting to know their neighbors in the process." - Mike Amari

This month’s event features a discussion with Jessica Clark, proprietor of Everything Nice, a record and book store and teeny tiny label in Ellenville, NY. And, a DJ set by Allison Baughman of "Peach Pasta Radio." Entry by donation. See you there!

"Breaking the Algorithm IRL" is a monthly series presented by Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM as part of our Local Waves initiative and the show "Local Waves in Conversation." Part conversation led by Mike Amari of Chosen Family and part DJ set by a WGXC volunteer, the series highlights local artists, musicians, venue owners and bookers, and record label owners.

Wave Farm and CREATE IN PROCESS present Soundshare, a space for audio/sound artists to gather, share, and collaborate. Participants are invited to the WGXC Catskill Studio to share pre-recorded or live works in a welcoming and communal space. All are welcome to come listen and discuss, though sharing is limited to four participants. Come meet fellow creatives, musicians, and performers!

These gatherings are free, but RSVP is required, whether sharing work or attending as a listener. Please submit requests to present work through the RSVP form. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant will have up to five minutes to share, and fifteen minutes of questions and offerings from the group.

Please bring a prepared dish and join us for a potluck following the sharing + feedback!

If sharing prerecorded work, participants should bring audio files on a thumb drive, laptop, or phone with adapters to ⅛” cable. If sharing work live, please email meredith@wavefarm.org to discuss technical needs. Please note that whether live or prerecorded, the work needs to be 5 minutes or less.

This exploration walk is perfect for nature lovers of all ages! We will learn about woodland pools and the animals who call these places home. These woodland pools, also called vernal pools, are seasonal pools of water that provide habitat for distinctive plants and animals, like spring peepers, wood frogs, and salamanders.

This time of year is ideal for spotting amphibians as they migrate from their wintering spots and journey to vernal pools to find mates.

Will Stratton is a songwriter, composer and guitarist living in New York’s Hudson Valley. He has released eight albums to positive reviews from Alexis Petridis (The Guardian), Sir Elton John, Pitchfork, Aquarium Drunkard, MOJO, and Uncut, among others. He occasionally mixes and produces music at Roxaboxen Recording, the project studio he co-owns with Martin Courtney in Beacon, NY, and he has written about music and recording for Tape Op and Brooklyn Magazine.

Meg Lui is a Northern California–born singer-songwriter based in New York’s Hudson Valley since 2015. In her music, vivid lyrics and poignant melodies intertwine with a voice that feels both intimate and lasting. Through reflections on love, resilience, and the human experience, she offers listeners a window into her world. Meg has released music under the names M. Lui, Grover, and as part of the trio Ember Isles. During her Brooklyn years, she co-wrote and starred in the rock opera Smile Swamp Princess.

Over the past two years, Meg has lent her voice to records including Sufjan Stevens’ Javelin (2023), Sam Evian’s Plunge, Denison Witmer’s Anything At All, John Legend’s My Favorite Dream, Keenan O’Meara’s forthcoming record Bathe In The Everlasting Light, and Liam Kazar’s Pilot Light. She performs regularly with Keenan O’Meara and Hannah Cohen and occasionally when the stars align, with the Hudson Valley country band Critter Bonus. Her debut full-length album is slated for release in 2026.

Join us for a celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month with a free live performance by Michael Benedict Jazz Vibes, featuring special guest vocalist Shiri Zorn. Ms. Zorn is an innovative jazz artist known for blending American jazz standards with Middle Eastern rhythms and Latin influences, creating a rich, soulful sound that connects deeply with audiences. The Michael Benedict Jazz Vibes ensemble includes Michael Benedict on vibraphone, Joe Finn on guitar, Mike Lawrence on bass, and Brian Melick on percussion.

The Columbia County Libraries Association is hosting a virtual history talk presented by Jeffrey Urbin, educator from the Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park. For this talk, we’ll explore how FDR’s “Four Freedoms” gave hope to war-weary Americans.

For Earth Day, we celebrate the newly-completed Plan to Conserve Columbia County, the anniversary of launching GoCoCo, and 40 years of caring for land together!

CLC is excited to sponsor the Columbia County Climate Smart Task Force’s Earth Day film screening at the Crandell Theater. Once you’ve stopped by our office to enjoy treats and a slice of birthday cake, head over to the Crandell Theatre for this free event from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Bridge Street Theatre opens its 2026 MainStage Season with "Bakersfield Mist" by Stephen Sachs, directed by Mark Perry. When Maude, an unemployed bartender, believes she’s discovered a long-lost Jackson Pollock, a New York art expert arrives to prove her wrong. What follows is a sharp, funny, and increasingly personal battle over art, authority, and who gets to decide what something is worth.

As the stakes rise, the question shifts from the painting itself to something deeper: who gets believed — and why.

Bridge Street Theatre is a professional theatre in Catskill, NY, creating bold, intimate live performance in the Hudson Valley.

As part of the Leisler Lectures at the Hudson Area Library, Dr. Thomas Wermuth speaks on food riots during the Revolutionary War, which occurred primarily in the Hudson Valley. While armies battled throughout New York in the 1770s, the Hudson Valley “homefront” suffered food shortages, high costs, and price gouging storekeepers. Riotous crowds took matters into their own hands by participating in market seizures and price riots, and even threatened to pull their support for the war.
