Bridge Street Theatre presents the U.S. Premiere of Red Like Fruit by award-winning playwright Hannah Moscovitch, October 2–12, 2025, on its “Priscilla” Mainstage in Catskill. Moscovitch, hailed as “the dark angel of Canadian theatre,” has earned international acclaim for her fearless works including East of Berlin and Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes. In Red Like Fruit, journalist Lauren (Elizabeth Narciso) investigates a domestic violence case but soon finds herself reckoning with her own long-suppressed past. Her narrative is voiced by an actor (Johnny Travers), forcing audiences to question whose stories are told and whose are silenced. Winner of a “Fringe First” Award at the Edinburgh Festival, the play is directed by Margo Whitcomb, who previously helmed BST’s Berkie Award-winning East of Berlin. Bold, intimate, and uncompromising, Red Like Fruit offers Hudson Valley audiences a chance to encounter one of today’s most daring playwrights up close.

The 6th Annual Community Reading of Washington Irving’s timeless classic, Rip Van Winkle, at the historic 1913 Ulster & Delaware Train Station on the MTHS campus.

Storytellers! Here’s your chance to step into the shoes (or perhaps the slumbering boots) of iconic characters. This is a great opportunity to flex your theatrical muscles in a fun, low-pressure environment. Embrace the colorful language and dramatic moments of Irving’s masterpiece – no memorization required!

Spectators can immerse themselves in the charm and humor of Rip Van Winkle as it unfolds in the unique ambiance of the beautifully preserved train station. A delightful afternoon of community, literature, and a touch of old-world magic.

On Saturday, October 12th, a unique ensemble meets an equally unique venue. Enter the splendor of The Widow Jane Mine with Dzieci Theatre, where their riotous clan from the “Old Country” will greet you with song, dance, and divination, then lead you between the gargantuan stone pillars and around the subterranean pools, in a riotous whirlwind of theatrical invention.

Dzieci’s Makbet (their bold take on Macbeth), comes alive through the performance of a handful of actors who take turns spontaneously trading off parts at the drop of a hat, exploring the art of storytelling, and creating a one-of-a-kind experience.

Malang Jobarteh is a Kora player from Gambia, Africa, now residing in New York, where he is a popular performer and instructor and has played with numerous musicians such as Boubacar Diebate, Bela Fleck, and Dialy Kounda. A Kora is a 21-string harp-like instrument traditionally made from a large gourd and wooden neck, and has historically been used in storytelling. Malang will sing, play, and share stories about his heritage, bringing a celebration of his homeland’s music to the library.

You're invited to join Stewardship Coordinator Garrett Chisholm every Thursday to help tackle the invasive species that threaten the health of the Preserve. Volunteers will learn how to identify and manage a different invasive species every week.

Curious magazine & gift shop in Midtown Kingston hosts a happy hour with Lee Clay Johnson, who will read from his new novel, Bloodline. Johnson was born and raised around Nashville, Tennessee, in a family of bluegrass musicians. His novel Nitro Mountain won the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts & Letters. Bloodline was published this summer as the inaugural release of the new Panamerica Books imprint, edited by Gary Fisketjon of Knopf, Random House and most recently the literary broadsheet County Highway. Light refreshments starting at 6:30pm, reading and book signing at 7.

Greetings, art lovers! This year ArtEast is celebrating its 20th year of presenting the ArtEast Open Studio Tour (that’s a lot of art!). This annual art event happens over two weekends: October 18-19 and October 25-26, 11:00am – 5:00pm each day during the most beautiful time of the year in the Hudson Valley. This year's participating artists include artists working across a diverse range of media and styles, with something to impress every visitor. You can see painters, sculptors, photographers, mixed-media, assemblage, woodworking, fiber, pottery – WHEW! That is a lot to see. Luckily studios are open for two weekends so if you run out of time the first weekend you’ve got the following weekend to see the ones you missed.

Another fun aspect to visiting the artists in their studios is you may come across the special treat of viewing live demonstrations by the artists of the techniques they use and apply to their works of art. What a great opportunity to really learn about the rich artistic environment of this area. Within each of these disciplines there is a depth of styles and expressions that each talented artist integrates into their artwork. In addition to being available to share their creative vision with art lovers, all of the artists will have original works of art on view.

This is a family-friendly, self-guided tour that takes you through the country roads of the Hudson Valley. Need a map and addresses of the artists?
