This event is geared towards adults looking to make a difference. Whether you are a first time volunteer or an experienced veteran, this event will inspire positive change and equip you with the tools you need to take action.

Random Harvest in Craryville, NY is proud to present performances by revered local musicians P.G. Six and Wednesday Knudsen on Sunday April 27 from 2 – 5 pm in the upstairs community space. The performances celebrate “The Asking Eye,” a solo exhibition from Berkshires photographer Daniel Karp. Donations are suggested bu no one will be turned away for lack of funds. 100% of door funds will be donated to families in Gaza. DJ Jeff Economy from WGXC’s Snackpoint Charlie will play music from the Middle East, Africa and beyond. Pesto for Palestine pizzas will be for sale (vegan and GF options available), with all funds going to mutual aid. Daniel Karp’s photographs are available for purchase, and flyers for the families we are supporting, with photos, bios and QR codes linking to their verified fundraising campaigns, adorn the walls. The event and exhibition are co-sponsored by Columbia County for Palestine.

“The Asking Eye,” which runs through Sunday May 4, has already raised more than $1500 for families and mutual aid orgs. By juxtaposing Daniel’s photographs of local landscapes with stories of families afflicted by war, we encourage viewers to connect our local lives and values with the devasting impacts of American foreign policy.

The Gaza Strip is about to enter its third month of complete blockade, with no food, medicine, or supplies of any sort allowed through its crossings. Famine is widespread. Direct donations to family campaigns are one of the most effective ways to supply desperately needed funds to the population.

Pat Gubler is P.G. Six – a guitarist and songwriter who’s been making music almost all his life. He started playing out in the ‘90s, with Memphis Luxure and Tower Recordings. The first P.G. album came in 2001; there are six in total, played solo and with others. Pat’s also played with Metal Mountains, Wet Tuna, Garcia Peoples and Weeping Bong Band. Murmurs & Whispers was released by Drag City Records in 2023.

Wednesday Knudsen, known for her work in Pigeons, Weeping Bong Band, and Bulle, describes her music as “pastel modes, slightly dissonant.”

February 6, 2025: Basic Audio Concepts 

Session objectives include an overview of common and useful terms related to acoustic, electronic, and digital ecologies, with a technical focus on audio transduction and microphone varieties. Additional topics for discussion include psychoacoustics—the branch of science studying the psychological responses associated with sound—with a focus on physical spatial considerations and panning/width in recording.

March 6, 2025: Filters

Session objectives include an introduction to common concepts related to filters in audio production, including frequency response, polar pattern, and equalization. Participants will also learn about The Fletcher Munson Curve, frequency masking, and infrasound, and how to apply these concepts to your work. We will also consider recording height and how to address unwanted plosives and sibilance.

April 3, 2025: Considering Loudness when Recording

Session objectives include strategies for achieving desired “depth” in your recordings. Topics include gain staging, dynamic range, compression, and the concept of distance in recording, including reverb and distortion.

May 1, 2025: Editing Bootcamp

Editing bootcamp! We will cover hotkeys, fades, matching takes, punching in/out, layering tracks, and bus processing. Participants will learn shortcuts for quicker and better edits, as well as bulk import/export strategies.

June 5, 2025: Creative processing

Session objectives include strategies for creating your own audio effects (FX). Topics include delays, filters, autopan, and time stretching. Participants will learn about sequences FX and FX automation in order to achieve the sounds you are imagining.

July 3, 2025: Multitrack Mixing

Session objectives include strategies for mixing multitrack sessions for full height, width, and depth without murkiness. The goal of this session is to understand how to make multiple tracks fit together in a mix. Attendees will participate in critical listening for frequency range, dynamics, and headroom.

August 7, 2025: The Physical Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include an overview of crucial care and maintenance of recording equipment to ensure longevity of your tools, including a hands-on introduction to soldering and light electronic repairs.

September 4, 2025: The Intangible Components of Recording Audio

Session objectives include discussions about analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion and digital audio processing. Specific topics will include block size, sample rate, bit depth, compression, streaming, and physical media. Additional topics include how best to manage computer resources in large sessions, latency for high track count, and CPU intensive processing.

October 2, 2025: Understanding Monitoring Sources and Taking it to the Stage

Session objectives include a conceptual overview of possible monitoring sources: speakers, headphones, and subwoofers, as well as the impacts of the space or room on your recording quality. Additional topics will include techniques for recording live performance, including ringing out microphones, PA system safety, microphone techniques, and streaming.

November 6, 2025: Taking It to the Field

Session objectives include field recording tools, principles, refinement, and processing.

Jen Kutler is a multidisciplinary artist and Technical Director of Wave Farm. Kutler modifies found objects that are cultural signifiers of power, gender, queerness, and intimacy to create atypical instruments and sculptures. Her performances feature many of her instruments incorporated with immersive field recordings to explore common and discrepant experiences of familiar social tones in immersive sound and media environments. Repeating the successful alchemy of RODELINDA (2023), Schlather brings together area residents, rising young stars, and some of the finest baroque interpreters today to share his passion for Handel in the intimacy of New York State’s oldest surviving theater.

They want you to get a sense of their challenges in realizing their vision. It might be dirty, noisy, and chaotic but it will not be dull.
This event offers a rare opportunity to step inside the working studios of some of New York's most talented and innovative artists whose studios are right here in eastern Dutchess County. You'll have the opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions, and learn about their techniques and inspirations. Each artist will be working on a project that will show you what it’s like to work in that medium. Looking at and listening to historical audio fragments from an international group of leaders who used fascist tactics to forward their personal agendas, this workshop aims to collectively create a new radio archive of resistance, informed by and learning from the past, to establish a strategy and hope for the future.

Inspired by Walter Benjamin’s and Bertolt Brecht’s belief in the potential of radio as an instrument of political education and popular knowledge production, this workshop mobilizes the listeners as experts, not as a product of scholarly knowledge but through personal and common histories.

Conducted via Zoom, the workshop will take place in three sessions. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three.
 

May 7, 2025, 6 - 8:00 p.m. EST Collective Listening 
Participants will listen to submissions from an open call assembling audio excerpts from historical and contemporary speeches from leaders such as Benito Mussolini, Augusto Pinochet, Donald Trump, Giorgia Meloni, Javier Milei, Jair Bolsonaro, Elon Musk, but also acoustic traces from our everyday life, such as recordings from peers, events, news outlets, or even quotes from social media read out loud. As a group, listeners will point at and identify returning tropes, and make them available for critical recognition, deconstruction.

May 9, 2025, 6 - 8:00 p.m. EST Resistance Radio
Participants will propose and present materials from historical and contemporary antifascist resistance. These materials will be sourced from the Wave Farm archives as well as from personal and public sound archives: they may include historical speeches, partisan songs, poetry, manifestos, etc. The materials may be already available in audio form, or may be read out loud by participants and recorded during the workshop, in case the audio is not available and the proposed material exists only in textual form.

May 10, 2025, 6 - 8:00 p.m. EST Broadcast Preparation
Participants will draw from the workshop discussions to collectively identify vital nodes and produce an archive for contemporary antifascist resistance which will also inform facilitator Giulia Palladini's introduction to the episode of The Radio Art Hour produced in conjunction with her fellowship. The Radio Art Hour airs weekly on WGXC 90.7-FM and is syndicated to other stations through the Pacifica Network. 

Giulia Palladini is a writer, researcher and educator, working between different languages, fields of knowledge and practices of production and reproduction in art and social life. Her work strives for a situated and affective approach to writing, teaching and critical theory.

Volunteer season kick-off
Taghkanic property

Together, we will break ground at a to-be-opened property in Taghkanic with a large-scale, native tree and shrub planting project. There will be many ways to help out, the chance to get to know fellow volunteers, and opportunities to learn about native plant species, proper planting methods, and tree care tips. Volunteers of all experience levels are encouraged to attend!

Lunch will be provided at noon, along with an overview of the property, plans for the future community forest, and opportunities to support the long-term care of the public site.

The East Durham Irish Festival is one of the longest-running Irish festivals in the USA, celebrating its 48th year in 2025! Non stop Irish performers on four stages Saturday and Sunday May 24th and 25, and a Friday free festival kick off sing song session at 6:00 pm in the beer garden. Michael English, I Draw Slow, the Prodigals, Irish Lassies; over 20 bands and performers for a rousing Irish Music Experience, and Father Fragomeni will be saying Mass on Sunday at 10am, his 45th year at the festival. Plenty of food, drink and vendors too and a Kids and Irish Cultural tent with Irish Language and music lessons, Irish crafts and much more.

This year’s Festival honoree is the late Michael Farrell, founder of the Farrell School of Irish Dance. In partnership with the Jacob Leisler Institute, this local history talk will cover the aftermath of the Palatine Migration in our area, the persistence of many family names, more than a century of co-existence with Livingston Manor, and the factors that eventually swept away much of the outwardly obvious Germanness of southern Columbia County, with an emphasis on those traces that have survived. Thomas Shannon—Germantown Historian, President of the NY Chapter of Palatines to America and Trustee of Friends of Historic Germantown—will present the discussion.

Performances by Fred Frith and Eucademix (Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto) will take place preceding the screenings as the sun sets.

Performances will take place on a rooftop stage on the Hi-Way’s concessions building, amplified on PA speakers as well as transmitted to audience members' car radios on each of the drive-in’s four FM frequencies (one per screen). The four screenings of Eno will be projected on the Hi-Way’s four large outdoor screens with each rendering’s soundtrack transmitted to the audience’s car radios on each screen’s dedicated FM frequency.

This extraordinary event will serve as a central fundraiser for Wave Farm’s WGXC: Radio for Open Ears, a creative community radio station serving New York’s Upper Hudson Valley on 90.7-FM and international listeners at wavefarm.org/listen.

Wave Farm is an international transmission arts organization driven by experimentation with the electromagnetic spectrum. Wave Farm cultivates creative practices in radio and support artists and nonprofit organizations in their cultural endeavors.

Based in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley, Wave Farm is a media arts center, media platform, and arts service organization. Wave Farm offers interdisciplinary outdoor installations, residencies and fellowships, and a research library. Wave Farm operates FM radio station WGXC and host many online radio channels. Wave Farm provides fiscal sponsorship, consultation, and grants to artists and organizations.

Launched in 2011, Wave Farm’s WGXC-FM is a full-power, non-commercial, listener-supported station operating out of dedicated studios in Acra and Catskill, NY; as well as pop-up temporary studio locations throughout the listening area and beyond. WGXC transmits 3,300 watts to more than 78,000 potential listeners on 90.7-FM and unlimited international listeners at wavefarm.org/ listen. Hands-on access and participation distinguish WGXC as a public platform for information, experimentation, and engagement.

Brian Eno - musician, producer, visual artist and activist first came to international prominence in the early seventies as a founding member of British band, Roxy Music, followed by a series of solo albums and collaborations. His work as producer includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson, James, Jane Siberry and Coldplay, while his long list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, Jon Hassell, Harold Budd, David Byrne, Grace Jones, his brother, Roger, on Mixing Colours and recently with Fred Again. In January 2024, Eno, a generative film about his life premiered worldwide to critical acclaim. His most recent music project is a collaboration with musician and artist Beatie Wolfe, and their first two albums, Luminal and Lateral, will be released on June 6th, 2025.

Eno’s visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career, with exhibitions and installations all over the globe. He has exhibited extensively, as far afield as St. Petersburg’s Marble Palace, Ritan Park in Beijing, Arcos de Lapa in Rio de Janeiro and the sails of the Sydney Opera House. He is involved in multiple activist work, such as the climate charity Earth Percent and HardArt, both of which he co-founded, as well as the Stop The War coalition. He is a founding member of the Long Now Foundation, a trustee of Client Earth and patron of Videre est Credere. In 2023, Brian was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement by the Venice Biennale Musica. He has recently written his second book, What Art Does co-authored with Bette A. and based upon his experience as an artist. Published by Faber, it was released in January 2025.

Rich with access to hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage and unreleased music, Gary Hustwit’s documentary Eno employs groundbreaking technology to accomplish something that’s never been done before: a feature film that’s never the same twice. Hustwit and digital artist Brendan Dawes have developed bespoke non-AI generative software designed to sequence scenes and create transitions out of Hustwit’s original interviews with Eno, and Eno’s rich archive of hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage, and unreleased music.

Each screening of Eno is unique, presenting different scenes, order, music, and meant to be experienced live. The infinitely iterative quality of Eno resonates with the artist's own creative practice, his methods of using technology to compose music, and his endless deep dive into the mercurial essence of creativity. Eno premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Fred Frith

Fred Frith is a pioneer of the extended electric guitar. He learned to compose in Henry Cow, developed his song-writing skills in Art Bears, explored his multi-instrumentalism in Skeleton Crew, rocked the house with Massacre and is still doing all of those things, having been in one band or another continuously since 1964! Meanwhile his work has been performed by ensembles, string quartets, chamber orchestras, and a whole range of groups and artists in the ever-expanding field of semi-popular music. Fred composes extensively for film, including Rivers and Tides and Touch the Sound by Thomas Riedelsheimer, The Tango Lesson by Sally Potter, Werner Penzel’s Zen for Nothing, and the Oscar-nominated Last Day of Freedom, by Nomi Talisman and Dee Hibbert-Jones. His passion for improvising, evident from the beginning, has increasingly led him to work with artists who don’t necessarily define themselves as improvisers, including Brazilian drummer Mariá Portugal, Argentinian cellist and performance artist Paula Sanchez, and bricoleur extraordinaire Sudhu Tewari. Fred played on several recordings by Brian Eno in the 1970s, including Before and After Science and Music for Films.

Eucademix (Yuka Honda )

Eucademix is the moniker of Yuka Honda, a producer, composer, performer, and visual artist renowned for her innovative, genre-defying approach to music and multimedia. Through her compositions and self-crafted video art, Honda seeks to transport audiences and expand the possibilities of sound and visual expression.

Her work is shaped by a bold and distinctive fusion of influences: the experimental energy of New York’s downtown jazz scene, the raw power of hip-hop and street music, the intricacies of classical music cherished by her mother, and the profound inspiration of nature—wild, beautiful, and at times mercilessly harsh. Honda’s artistry blends experimental textures with rhythm-driven grooves, engaging both the intellect and the body.

Born in Tokyo, Honda spent her formative years in Germany and Denmark before later living in Aix-en-Provence and Paris. These cultural experiences deeply inform her sonic explorations, resulting in a distinct and boundary-pushing body of work.

In 1994, Honda co-founded the band Cibo Matto with Miho Hatori. Deeply connected to the rhythms of the natural world, Honda is also a board member of the Catskills Agrarian Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to food sovereignty and regenerative agriculture. Her recent works, Farm Psychedelia I and Farm Psychedelia II honor the radical farmers of upstate New York who are innovating solutions to food insecurity, further bridging her artistic practice with her commitment to community and environmental stewardship.

Interstitial Sounds: SUNJIR0 (Kadallah Burrowes)

SUNJIR0 is one of the many aliases of Kadallah Burrowes, a transdisciplinary artist and creative technologist who brings vital soul and aesthetic depth to the bleeding edge of technical arts. Their current practice as a sonic artist makes use of live-coding environments to sculpt infinitely generating musical compositions within the realms of ambient, noise, and experimental electronic music. As a social arts practitioner, they helped catalyze the ANANSI Revolutionary Collective, a pan-African group of artists that democratically collaborate on art and work while physically spread across the world. SUNJIR0 and the ANANSI Revolutionary Collective were Wave Farm residents in 2024.

Kadallah's art work has been showcased and performed in person at Wave Farm, Fridman Gallery, Munyu Space, Nafasi Art Space, and Power Station of Art, and digitally in COMMON and in collaboration with the City of Seattle. Their work has been featured in Resident Advisor, Foxy Digitalis, China Daily, Kernel Magazine, Radii China, Brooklyn to Beijing, The Afrofuturist Podcast with Ahmed Best, GoFAR, and Speak Up! Speeches by Young People to Empower and Inspire.
