This month David Garland stops by the studio to talk about his upcoming photography exhibition as well as his musical background and the road that led him upstate.

David Garland, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, spent decades in New York City as a musician and radio host, hosting the legendary Spinning On Air at WNYC for nearly 30 years and various shows at WQXR. He has worked and collaborated with the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, John Zorn, and Patti Smith. A multi-instrumentalist, Garland has released numerous albums from the 1980s and on, both under his own name as well as the bands Garlands and Music for Furniture. 

After moving to Upstate New York in 2011, he returned to visual art. His unique photographs, shared widely on Instagram, have earned a dedicated following. David Garland's photographic work has been featured in multiple exhibitions, including a 2024 solo exhibition at Headstone Gallery in Kingston and a special exhibition at Foreland in Catskill in early 2025.
