Noreen McKee, Board Member of the Rensselaer County League of Women Voters, spoke to WOOC's Melissa Bromley about the ruling of the New York State Attorney General's lawsuit against Rensselaer County Board of Elections for failing to provide voters in Rensselaer County with adequate and equitable access to early voting poll sites, specifically in communities of color. On Friday, June 5, Judge Adam W. Silverman of the Rensselaer County Supreme Court ruled that the Board of Election's decision not to place a site in a centrally located area within Troy is arbitrary and capricious, and must be annulled. And since 1992 health care advocates in NYS have been pushing for a single payer universal health care system. Even though the State Senate now has a majority of members sponsoring the bill, the Democrat's Majority Leader won't allow it for a vote. Hundreds came to Albany on June 7 in a last ditch effort to force a vote. We hear from Charley Bowman of Buffalo; Cheryl Snyder of Ulster County; Earl Kimmick of Grassroots Action NY; Sandy Przybylak of the Erie County Green Party; Rev. Joe Paperone of the Poor People's Campaign; Rev. Joseph Seals; and lead sponsor, and Assemblyperson Richard Gottfried in a segment produced by WOOC's Mark Dunlea. And Sunday, June 13 is Race Amity Day. Race Amity Day is based on the belief, promoted by the National Race Amity Center that, “Race relations in America will not substantially improve unless the public discourse on race moves beyond the blame-grievance-rejection framework to one that recognizes and celebrates our ability to overcome racial prejudice through association, amity, and collaboration.“ The Race Unity Circle, based in Poughkeepsie, NY is marking the holiday with an online summit on for friendship and understanding between races. Moses Nagel spoke with three members of the steering committee about the meanings of Race Amity and the plans for this years’ summit.

The WGXC Morning Show is a radio magazine show featuring local news, interviews with community leaders and personalities, reports on cultural issues, a rundown of public meetings and local and regional events, with weather updates, and more about and for the community, made mostly through volunteers in the community through WGXC. The Catskill Makers Syndicate produce the "Better Weather" for the show. Rob Gelles produces the Columbia County history segment "Rob Around The County" and "This Month in History" for the show. Julia Joern produced the "Hudson Valley Word of Mouth" interview segment each week. The "WGXC Congressional Report" also airs here. Some reports come from our partner station, WOOC-LP in Troy, out of The Sanctuary for Independent Media. Tom Roe also cuts up local and national news with songs and sounds for the show. At 9 a.m. "The WGXC Daily," with local headlines, weather, and previews of community events, airs. At 10 a.m., national headlines from Public News Service are on WGXC. Sometimes national, state, or local press conferences, meetings, or events are broadcast live here.
