FCC considers LPFM rule changes

David Oxenford in the Broadcast Law Blog reports that the FCC is asking for comments on a rulemaking proposal that would allow LPFM stations to operate commercially and be owned by local small businesses. The proposal would also give LPFM stations primary status, protecting them against being displaced by a subsequent move of a full-power station or the initiation of service by a new full-power FM station. And the proposal would let nonprofit groups operate more than one LPFM station. A different recent proposal would allow LPFM stations to increase power to 250 watts. Comments on this proposal are due on August 30 at fcc.gov.
