Officially declared by French artist Robert Filliou in 1963, art was born on the 17th of January, "when someone dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water."
This year free103point9 is celebrating the occasion with a series of five-minute performances by musicians, artists, and you! We will also be eating a very big cake.
Please join us for this annual affair at 338 Berry on Thursday, January 17 at 9-11 p.m. BYOFork! For Art's Birthday, free103point9 Online Radio will set up two web streams: one restreaming Kunstradio's stream live from Austria (and other Art's Birthday celebrations around the world), and an original free103point9 web stream live from New York.
Celebrating Art’s Birthday is a tradition started by French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou who declared, on January 17, 1963, that Art had been born exactly 1,000,000 years ago when somebody dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water. Throughout the last decades artists continued organising annual celebrations in the spirit of Filliou’s “Eternal Network” or “La Fête permanente.” In 2008 people all over the world will again be preparing numerous networked birthday parties for art, several of these under the motto “Forever Young”. Join the worldwide celebrations by contributing presents to the party! These presents we invite you to upload to our present pool online under
http://www.kunstradio.at/PROJECTS/AB2008/presents-upload.php
On site at the party in Vienna we will be listening in on the presents and streams, artists will re-mix and further distribute these online and via the live Kunstradio broadcast on the cultural channel on the Austrian National Radio Ö1 from 11 – 12 p.m. CET/5-6 p.m. ET, as well as on the EBU satellite, and on free103point9 Online Radio. In addition, free103point9 Online Radio will be checking in to other Art's Birthday performances throughout the day. See http://www.artsbirthday.net/ for more information.
