Nuestra Música: Paises Part VIII Guatemala and Brazil (Audio)

We are presenting the part 8 of the series Paises, Countries, with 2 30 minutes segments dedicated to 2 different countries. Today is the turn to the music of Brazil and Guatemala.

We start with Guatemala the land of Marimba and Garifuna. Marimba has been played as early as 1680 and Garifuna is heavily influence by the African Guatemalan population, in addition the Mayan music is important in the country representing the original natives of the land. Ricardo Arjona, Gaby Moreno, Malacates Trebol Shop, among others will be highlighted in the show.

Brazil, the music that encompasses various musical styles with influences from African, European and Amerindian forms will be in the second half of the show with Chico Buarque, Vinicius, Antonio Carlos Jobim and a beautiful guitar and cello rendition of Heitor Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5. “Nuestra Música,” “Our Music,” presents the rhythms and folklore of Latin America, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde. From Tango to Flamenco and all Latinx music in between. The show explores the native instruments, languages and traditions played in 22 countries and one territory. Other than Spanish and Portuguese, Nuestra Música presents songs in Quechua, Mapuche, Guaraní, Nahuatl, Gallego, Spanish Basque, and Catalán. Among many styles we present: Tango, Chacarera, Baguala, Zamba with a Z and Samba with and S, Bossa Nova, Cumbia, Llanero, Vallenato, Merengue, Parrandera, Son, Bolero, Ranchera, Corrido, Marimba, Fado, Flamenco, Sevillanas, Jota, Blues, Jazz, Danzon, Mambo and many more.
