Hosted by Cecilia Tkaczyk.
New York state does not permit high-volume hydraulic fracturing due to health risks as cited by Health Commissioner Howard Zucker. However, more pipelines carrying natural gas mean more transfer and compressor stations, and other infrastructure with cumulative health impacts. Health professionals, residents, elected officials and advocates from across the state are urging Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, the state Department of Environmental Conservation and the state Health Department to address the growing concern this infrastructure build-out has on residents. Susan VanDolsen of Stop the Algonquin Pipeline Expansion (SAPE), and Robert Nied, of the Center for Sustainable Rural Communities, discussed this issue.
