Music for the Masses: Sylvain Leroux (Audio)

Host Neva E. Wartell will be joined in the studio by special guest Sylvain Leroux – one of the world’s notable masters of the tambin, or Fula flute, of the Fulani people of Guinea, West Africa. He brought traditional West African music to a chamber music setting with the Fula Flute Ensemble, curated the Griot Summit series that featured 25 New York City area griots from five countries, and founded a music literacy project and school in Conakry, Guinea. He has performed and recorded with a long list of musical greats including Billy Martin, Adam Rudolph, Karl Berger, Abdoulaye Diabaté, Emeline Michel, Hassan Hakmoun, The Mandingo Ambassadors, Brooklyn Raga Massive, and many others.
