Overlooked: Charles Mingus (Audio)

Apr 23, 2019
Coming a day after what would have been composer, bandleader, bassist Charles Mingus’s 97th birthday, host Rob Saffer will play Mingus music from a full spectrum of the artist’s career — from large groups and small, early career and late — and showcase the influence of Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk on Mingus' career. Tunes include: Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting, Slop, Money Jungle, My Jelly Roll Soul, Myself When I’m Real and many more. Special thanks to co-conspirator and audio transfer specialist Marc Epstein. "Overlooked" is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational music and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments...a real mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird.
