Richard Foreman's Ontological Hysteric Theater presents, Part of the Ontological Hysteric Theater's Summer Series, 31 Down's "That's not how Mahler died..." is a slow and mesmerizing look at behavior and obsession.
Multimedia theater group 31 Down presents a hauntingly hypnotic mellow drama; technology seems hidden behind a sultry glimpse into a noir-styled tale of adultery and voyeurism. Inspired by the real life affair between Gustav Mahler's wife Alma Mahler (the famous personality who has been named the last femme-fatale) and the Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius, the play is set in the late 1950's and finds detective Mike Sharpie encountering the same loneliness and obsession that marked the last year of composer Gustav Mahler's Life.
Starring: Lian Sifuentes Ryan Holsopple and Frank Boudreaux

The Ontological-Hysteric Theater's Summer Series builds on the success and strengths of its OBIE-award-winning predecessors the Blueprint Series and the Seven Minute Series, to provide a challenging forum for emerging theater artists to present art works that offer new possibilities for the performative arts. The Summer Series will continue the Ontological Series' tradition of rising above the average and creating a safe laboratory environment in which theater artists can take risks and push their own boundaries. However the structure of the Summer Series has been adapted to provide participant artists with a stronger support structure and a longer-term development process. The aim of the Summer Series is to provide emerging artists with the support they need to develop solid and challenging work that will be showcased at the Ontological-Hysteric Theater during a four-week summer festival. Some participants will also be considered for the following year's Summer Residency program.
As with the Blueprint Series, the Summer Series will showcase four projects. However, instead of choosing the participants from online and paper applications three months prior to production, the Summer Series curators will chose four projects for presentation from a pool of artists who have been developing works over the prior year in the Ontological's two other works-in-progress presentation tracks, the Downstairs Series and Outside/Input. The final four projects chosen from these other tracks will be encouraged to continue to workshop their pieces during the two months that separate the end of the Downstairs Series and Outside/Input programs and the public opening of the Summer Series.
The Summer Series will take place in August of each summer for four weeks. Each project will have one week at the Ontological Theater to load in, conduct a final rehearsal and open their piece to the public for four nights. As with the BluePrint Series and Seven Minute Series, the OHT will continue to provide Summer Series participants with publicity, minimal technical support, and a place to present their work.
