William Cusick_An Instrument for the Measure of Absence

Feb 13, 2009: 7pm- 11:59 pm
Harvestworks is pleased to present An Instrument For The Measure Of Absence, a new interactive video and audio installation by 2008 Harvestworks Artist In Residence William Cusick. The work is based on the upcoming production of Americana Kamikaze, a new hybrid theater/cinema performance by the experimental theater company Temporary Distortion, premiering at Performance Space 122 in November 2009. Inspired by Japanese ghost stories, the work explores the concept of absence and the capacity for violence to transform otherwise unremarkable lives. The installation is presented inside one of Temporary Distortion’s claustrophobic box structures. Collaborators include director Kenneth Collins, composer John Sullivan, and interactive designer Ryan Holsopple. An Instrument For The Measure Of Absence will premiere in Europe as part of the VIA & EXIT Festivals this spring in 2009. The installation is co-produced by Maison des Arts de Créteil in Paris and Le Manège in Maubeuge, France.
